The New York Times Sets Fibromyalgia Sufferers Back 100’s of Years

So, we are whiners…. stressed out…. hypochondriacs…. Fibro is all in our heads.. .and if you don’t believe it, just read the article at the NYT:Drug Approved. Is Disease Real? – New York Times

Unfortunately for millions of Fibromyalgia sufferers around the world, the one time a major newspaper decides to cover our “invisible” illness, they do so with ridicule and scorn. As a sufferer of Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis, I was appalled to read an article claiming that “diagnosing the condition actually worsens suffering by causing patients to obsess over aches that other people simply tolerate“.

The battles that have been fought to get Fibromyalgia recognized as a real condition and then to get real studies going to help find treatments for this condition have been very difficult. Now here comes an article setting back those efforts hundreds of years. Fibromyalgia is a very REAL condition and it can completely destroy a person’s life… especially if they cannot be diagnosed and treated… validated. The NYT has done the world a huge disservice by presenting such a biased article.

If you suffer from Fibromyalgia or know someone who does, I hope YOU will take a moment to make your voice heard somewhere… anywhere…

Thank you for reading!

  1. Hi,

I don’t nornally post links in blog comments and I’m not trying to be spammy!

I wrote a post (below) that included by letter to the editor of the New York Times back when they published a reprehensible letter questioning the existence of fibro.

The fibro I have is as real as the cancer I had removed back in ’96.

The fibro is invisible. Therefore, these irresponsible reporters ignore fact-checking and publish hurtful, inaccurate, shameful articles on fibro!

The post below contains my letter to the NYT and a video clip from a widower… He lost his wife, who was a fibro patient, and has gone public to create awareness about fibro.

Hope my blog post helps someone! Maybe my NYT letter can inspire someone to write this latest newspaper that printed such garbage. I’m too sick right now to write them myself! (I was only able to skim this newer article… on purpose to protect my mental health… but I got the idea!

Best of luck protesting this latest shameful article!

    Jeanne
